CyFair Cycling Club was formed in November of 2004. Since then the club has grown from approximately six members to an average membership of 350. The club is known for its emphasis on achieving fitness while having fun. The Saturday Morning Ride from Zube Park is great for both singles and families.
Whether an occasional recreational rider or a top notch USCF racer, you can find a group to ride with every Saturday Morning.
Of course, the club is famous for the Lone Star Express and the Katy Rural Decade. These tours are important dates on the Texas cycling calendar.
But the club is much more than an organization that puts on rides. CyFair is very active in producing a well rounded cyclist. Club members are offered various repair clinics from beginning to advanced, cycling and health related speakers at monthly club meetings, and various rider skill clinics throughout the year. The club also offers new rider orientation on the Saturday morning rides. The club will help the beginning cyclist acquire the necessary skills for riding on the open road as well as the proper techniques for pack riding. It also serves to introduce club members to each other and get them familiar with the county roads.
The monthly newsletter, the City Slicker Cyclist, provides club members with technical and training advice, upcoming club activities, local rides and statewide cycling events as well as informative and sometimes humorous articles by club members.
CyFair Cycling Club offers a social side to cycling. Club members are treated to an annual club picnic for the whole family to enjoy. During the month of December the club skips the monthly club meeting to celebrate the upcoming holiday seasons. The annual "Holiday Party" provides members with a chance to recap the year with both new and old friends.
But club members do not need a specific event to socialize and meet new people. After every Saturday morning ride, water, cookies, bananas and other refreshments are served while people hang around and swap stories. Periodically the club gets together to try other sports like an afternoon of football or volleyball. NWCC members have even been known to organize a game of paint ball, go off rock climbing - once a trip was even organized to ride out to an airport and several club members wound up jumping out of an airplane!
Special cycling events are also offered throughout the year. Weekly Sunday morning rides in other locations such as Chapel Hill or Magnolia are also held.
Each September the Club Century is held in conjunction with the Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club. This ride starts and ends in Montgomery. This ride is fully supported with rest stops and sag vehicles. The routes are the prettiest in the Houston area.
Each summer the club promotes the "Club Stage Race." This weekend race is designed with the non-racer in mind. It offers an opportunity for recreational riders to race with the licensed racers just for fun. The race consists of an individual time trial, a team time trial, a criterium and a road race. All points are scored for the team and all riders contribute to the points to the team.
Every January 1st the club meets at CyFair Cyclery for a casual New Year’s Day ride through downtown Houston to a coffee shop for breakfast.
Club members also receive a 10% discount at CyFair Cyclery as well as special club member only promotions.
